Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. has reached an agreement that allows FAW Huali (Tianjin) Motor Co.,Ltd. to produce the Terios in China. The agreement was signed on 24th January by Daihatsu President Takaya Yamada and FAW Huali Chairman Jin Yi at a ceremony held at the Shangri-la Hotel in Changchun, Jilin Province.
Forming the background for the new licence agreement between Daihatsu and FAW Huali was a tie-up agreement reached between Toyota Motor Corporation and the China FAW Group Corporation in August 2002.
As a compact SUV that meets the needs of Chinese consumers, the Terios is expected to see growing popularity. Production is scheduled to begin in autumn 2003, with initial production set at 10,000 vehicles per year.

The core of FAW Huali is the compact car manufacturing division of the Tianjin Automotive Industrial (Group) Co., Ltd., which began producing the Hijet in 1984 under a licence agreement with Daihatsu. Hijet production has since been discontinued.
